Hunger Hero of the Month: George Harvey

harvey_smMeet George Harvey, a junior at Riverdale Country School in the Bronx and our Hero of the Month for February!

My name is George Harvey, and I am currently a junior at Riverdale Country School in the Bronx. At school I play on the soccer, squash, and tennis teams, and in my free time I enjoy playing piano and hanging out with my friends. In tenth grade Riverdale holds the Jolli Humanitarian competition, which is designed to highlight and honor people who have “made significant contributions to foster social, political, environmental or cultural equity in the world.” As I researched various humanitarians around the world, Dr. Samuels and Bed-Stuy Campaign Against Hunger was brought to my attention by friends of my parents, Lois and Arthur Stainman. I was immediately moved and amazed by all that Dr. Samuels and her charity have done to address hunger in Bedford Stuyvesant and the greater New York area. I am proud to say Dr. Samuels won the Jolli Award. It has been really exciting to get to volunteer with my family and see all the extraordinary work in person. I am honored to be named the hero of the month, and I look forward to continued opportunities to aid BSCAH in its fight against hunger.
