Where Community, Agriculture, and Access Come Together
Our Urban Aricultural Centers
The Campaign Against Hunger’s Urban Agricultural Centers are transforming underutilized spaces across New York City into thriving hubs of fresh food production, education, and community empowerment. By combining sustainable farming practices with workforce development, these centers grow nutrient-rich produce that directly supports families facing food insecurity — while teaching youth, volunteers, and local residents how to cultivate food in their own neighborhoods.
TCAH has been a leader in the Urban Farming revolution since 2007. Having started with two backyard plots, TCAH now operates five robust youth-led Urban Argo-Educational Centers which employ at risk teens in our Green Teens Internship Program.
Saratoga Urban Agro-Ecological Center
2046-2050 Fulton St, Brooklyn, NY 11233
TCAH’s first farm, located in Brooklyn just down the block from the TCAH headquarters, has since become a model urban farm encompassing 7,900 sq. ft. The focal point of this space is the Saratoga Hoophouse, a structure that extends our growing season by using solar heat to keep crops alive during colder weather. For example, we are able to begin growing as early as March and continue to harvest as late as December. With the hoophouse in place, the Saratoga Urban Agro-Ecological Center has become the perfect setting for teaching important farming skills, as the warmer climate provided by the hoophouse also allows us to offer gardening classes on the farm throughout the winter.
Far Rock Urban Agro-Ecological Center
385 Beach 45th St. Far Rockaway, NY 11691
At half an acre, the Far Rock Urban Agro-Ecological Center is TCAH’s largest farm, breathing life into land that was once an empty lot. Being one of our high-yield farm sites, the Far Rock farm produces vegetables and eggs from TCAH’s chicken coop.
Arverne East Urban Agro-Ecological Center
Beach 32nd Street, Far Rockaway, NY
TCAH’s farm-on-the-beach coastal farm sits conveniently along the shoreline of Rockaway Beach and features 80 raised planter beds, compost systems, and irrigation. Designed to complement our Far Rock location just two blocks away, the farm helps connect Rockaway residents to fresh, affordable food while also welcoming the broader New York community of beachgoers.
Eastern Parkway Urban Agro-Ecological Center
1420 Eastern Pkwy, Brooklyn, NY 11233
Eastern Parkway Farm is an agricultural space with 5,000 square feet of land to grow fresh produce for our neighbors in Brownsville and beyond. Brownsville and the surrounding zip codes have struggled disproportionately from diet-related diseases like diabetes and hypertension. Our cultivation strategies include addressing these disparities and promoting environmental stewardship and sustainable agriculture.
